Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A Silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned:  Azure, a vol Argent, overall issuing from base a Hawaiian spear, Tenn.  Attached below the shield a Red scroll inscribed "KU WELA KA HAO" in Silver letters.

Symbolism
The colors blue and golden orange are traditionally associated with U.S. Army Aviation.  The wings symbolize the Aviation mission and the spear alludes to Hawaii, the unit's home location.  The red, symbolic of courage and leadership, together with the silver/white and blue are our National colors.  The motto translates to "Strike While The Iron Is Hot."

The distinctive unit insignia was approved effective 2 October 1986.

That for the regiments and separate battalions of the Hawaii Army National Guard:  On a wreath of the colors Argent and Azure, a dolphin embowed hauriant Argent, in his mouth a key fesswise Or.

Motto

KU WELA KA HAO (Strike While The Iron Is Hot).
